![]() I have found Tiger Woods' analog joystick technique unrealistic when making short shots, and when swinging from uneven terrean it doesn't affect the flight path of the ball either. The new advanced shot techniqued make the gameplay even more difficult than before as now you have to try and adjust the strength of your shot without using the power bar at the bottom of the screen to show you how far the flag is. Don't let the cartoony characters fool you!! They just have different character attributes that makes you be able to play with a player that suits your style of play. Hot Shots Golf Out of Bounds is an absolutely outstanding golf game! I am the owner of HS 2,3, & Fore, and the Hot Shots games just keep getting better! I really like the difficulty of the game and how much more realistic the gameplay is compared to other golf games (I also own Tiger Woods 06 and 09). Use it as a "pick up and play" and as a fun party sports game. Also, there aren't enough courses (though now, there's downloadable content, including courses). It can feel like you're directing someone more than playing yourself. ![]() The characters that are in the game are unique, but I'd really liked to have made my own, with some semblance to me. I'm not impressed by the fact that you can't quite customize your characters, or even create one. ![]() Of course, the traditional setup is there, but once you use Advanced, you'll wonder why they didn't have this earlier. Too fast or too slow, and your shot is mediocre. With the Advanced Shot feature (over the traditional setup), there's a little more emphasis on timing, which is important in golf. But, it's deep enough to make for competition. It does have an arcade feel, which would easily turn off those of the EA Sports Tiger Woods variety (which I also play and enjoy). Hot Shots Golf, by Claphanz, has a very good reputation for excellent presentation and gameplay. There are other review sites that are better to use, but I'll offer this: don't write this off as a kids game because of the artwork. Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned Overall, this being the current version of the long running franchise, it is worth a play if you can find it at a decent price. Using the same character repeatedly scores you 'loyalty' points, that improve various stats of your player or adding additional abilities such as spin, or extra chances to use power shots.ġ: Purchased DLC such as players and courses are not available until you 'earn' them by winning many sets of matches.Ģ: There is no opportunity for more than one person to have their own 'save', while playing as a specific PS3 user. The courses vary by shuffling holes, or changing wind and weather conditions as you progress. You start with one course, the Highland Country Club, and a choice of two characters, a female and male, Jasmine and Nick, both novices.Īs you play and win on various games of with 9 holes in or out, you are awarded a chance to pick one of several 'cards', winning the item that is hidden on the reverse side, such as new clubs, a different caddy, various golf balls, etc. I would have given this game 5 stars, except for the lack of the ability to use purchased DLC until you are far into the game. Detailed statistics are tracked throughout each mode and challenge, from best average score and driving distance to average putt length and putting accuracy. Key play modes include Versus, Training, Tournament, Stroke, and Match Play. Players can also send messages to friends, or visit the PlayStation Store to purchase new courses, clubs, characters, and other features. Online avatars can be tweaked with 300 visual options, including hairstyles, masks, clothing, and more. Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds also includes a robust online component, with the ability to create custom tournaments supporting up to 50 players. By competing in different events, players can unlock new equipment such as enhanced clubs and balls. Once again a number of customization features are available to personalize each of the game's 15 characters and six caddies. Traditionalists can still, however, revert back to the old swing system from the options menu. The shot system by default forgoes the horizontal power meter in favor of a swing-based approach in which players use visual cues to time their backswings and follow-throughs. The new venues take place along a coast, on a mountain range, in the woods, and across a desert. Cutesy characters with large heads and whimsical expressions can compete on six new courses filled with onlookers, animals, and other animated surprises. The framework is otherwise the same as in previous games in the series, which began on the original PlayStation in 1998. Hot Shots Golf makes its first appearance on PlayStation 3 with online support for multiplayer competition and a new shot system.
